Why Calsa exists

When people give up counting calories, they usually say one of three things. Logging takes too long. Photo apps give you a number nobody can check. Miss one week and the whole thing starts to feel like a chore. We built Calsa around those three.

01

Fast to log

Snap a photo, type or say "salad, 200 g", or scan a barcode. You can log several foods at once, and your usual meals are one tap away.

02

Numbers you can check

AI suggests the foods and the grams. You confirm them, and the calories come from a food database. Every entry shows where its number came from.

03

Breaks are fine

Nothing is lost while you're away. Come back with a single entry, or hide the numbers and just keep the diary.

Where the name comes from

Calsa is pronounced KAL-sa, with the stress on the first syllable. The "Cal" is for calories, so the name tells you what the app does before you open it.

Say it out loud and it sounds a lot like salsa. We liked that for an app about food. Keeping track of what you eat can feel a bit warm and lively, and the name should too.

Where the numbers come from

The AI doesn't make up calories. It recognises the food and suggests a portion. The number itself comes from a public food table or the product's own data, chosen for the country you live in.

What you can count on

Price first

You see the price, the trial length and the date of your first charge before we ask you anything.

One-tap cancel

Cancelling works the same way subscribing did. Nothing tries to talk you out of it.

All tracking in every plan

Every plan has photo, voice, barcode, search, weight and export. The plans differ only in the AI chat.

Your data stays yours

We don't sell your health data or use it to target ads. The apps have no ad trackers.

AI with an off switch

Anything made by AI is labelled. One switch turns AI off, and logging still works.

A calorie floor

Calsa won't save a calorie goal below a safe minimum. There is no setting to turn this off.

Take a break

There are no streaks to lose. Come back after a month and your diary is just as you left it.

A person on the other end

A person reads every email to support and replies within 24 hours.

Everything Calsa does

80 features in 9 groups. We build this list straight from our product specification, so it changes whenever the product does.

Log food your way

  • Type or say it. Type or say what you ate with grams, like "oatmeal 250 g, banana". Several foods fit in one line, and speech turns into text on your phone.
  • Snap a photo. Calsa names the foods and suggests grams, and you confirm the portion. Oil and dressing get a line of their own.
  • Scan a barcode. Scan packaged food in any plan. UK and Australian products are included.
  • Read the label. No barcode match? Take a photo of the nutrition label instead.
  • Search with grams. Pick several foods in one search. The ones you usually eat at this meal show up first.
  • Quick add. Just type the calories. No AI involved.
  • Repeat and copy. Open any day and tap "Copy to today" to repeat a meal, the whole day or only the foods you pick.
  • Restaurant chains. Chain restaurant dishes, with the numbers the chain itself publishes.
  • Your recipes. Build a recipe from its ingredients or from a photo of it, using raw or cooked weight.
  • Your own foods. Foods you add yourself stay private to your account.
  • Edit in place. Change the grams, or select several entries to move, repeat or delete them together. You can undo it.
  • Meals by time. Each entry lands in the right meal, based on when you ate it.
  • Drafts. A half-finished entry is kept, even if the app closes.
  • Works offline. Log food without a connection. Your last 7 days open offline too.
  • Import your history. Bring your history over in a CSV file and check a preview before anything is saved.

Numbers you can check

  • Source on every number. Each entry shows where its calories come from and the math, "per 100 g × grams". Amounts you haven't confirmed are marked "estimate".
  • Stable past entries. Log the same entry twice and you get the same number. Past days never change without telling you.
  • Report a wrong food. Send a correction, and the shared entry changes after review.

Your day and your goal

  • A goal in a few questions. Answer a short quiz to get a calorie goal, or track without one.
  • A safe floor. A goal below the safe calorie floor isn't saved, and Calsa tells you why.
  • Goals by weekday. Give different days different goals, and mark a training day with one tap.
  • Change your goal any time. Edit calories or macros and the other one adjusts to match.
  • Your units. Pick kcal or kJ, grams or ounces, and kg, lb or stone.
  • Today by meal. Your day split by meal, with what's left updated after every entry.
  • Nutrients. Calories, protein, fat, carbs, fiber and sugar. More nutrients are there if you want them.
  • Plain-word notes. Calsa says "in range" or "below goal" in words, never with a color verdict.
  • Allergies and limits. Mark allergens, foods you don't eat and things to watch, like caffeine or salt. Calsa warns you when a food contains your allergen.
  • Water and fluids. Count water by the glass, plus the fluid in everything you log.

Weight and progress

  • Weight trend. A smoothed trend instead of daily jumps. You can hide your weight number if you'd rather not see it.
  • Progress on one screen. Your body, food and movement side by side.
  • Weekly recap. Your week in plain facts, including what you ate by the hour.
  • Goal updates from your trend. When your trend calls for it, Calsa suggests a new goal. The choice is yours.
  • If this continues. A forecast range for your weight, marked as an estimate.
  • Maintenance. A goal to hold your weight once you get there.
  • Body fat from your scale. Calsa reads it from Apple Health or Health Connect.
  • BMI without labels. Just the number next to the usual range. Switch it off any time.
  • Apple Health and Health Connect. Weight, steps and active energy come in. Food and water go back out.

An AI chat that knows your diary

  • Answers from your diary. The chat sees your diary, goal and weight trend. Its numbers come from the food database.
  • Memory you control. See, edit or delete what the chat remembers, or switch memory off.
  • Recipes for what's left. Ask for a recipe that fits what's left of your day and save it as your own.
  • What to order. Name a dish or send a photo of the menu. Calsa and Calsa Premium.
  • What to cook. Send a list or a photo of your fridge. Calsa and Calsa Premium.
  • Fix an entry in words. Type "The rice was 100 g" and the entry changes after you tap.
  • Ask by voice. Speak your question and your phone turns it into text.
  • Ask about this screen. The chat knows which day or entry you're looking at.
  • Weekly review. Ask for a review of your week. Calsa and Calsa Premium.
  • Ideas for the week. Up to two ideas drawn from your own diary. Calsa and Calsa Premium.
  • Monthly review. A look back at your month, written by a larger model. Calsa Premium.
  • Answers read aloud. Have an answer read out to you. Calsa Premium.
  • Questions about Calsa. Answered from Help, and they don't use up your messages.
  • Clear limits. The chat is labelled as AI and never messages you first. It gives no diagnoses or treatment advice.

Breaks are fine

  • No streaks. Miss a week and you lose nothing. Reminders go quiet.
  • Come back in one step. Log one entry and you're back. Or start with your weight.
  • Track without numbers. Hide calories, nutrients and weight, and bring them back any time.

Plans and billing

  • Three plans. Calsa Start, Calsa and Calsa Premium. Every plan has all of the tracking. What changes is the AI chat.
  • Price before questions. You see the price, trial length, first charge date and how to cancel before anything else. A reminder comes before the trial ends.
  • Messages you can see. You can always see how many chat messages you have left. A top-up pack never expires.
  • Cancel in one tap. Cancel the same way you subscribed. No screen trying to talk you out of it.
  • Your diary after you leave. When a subscription ends, you can still read, export and delete everything. Come back later and your history is still there.
  • Refund windows. Refund windows are spelled out before you pay.
  • One subscription everywhere. One subscription covers web, iPhone and Android, with a reminder before it renews.
  • Locked price. Your price doesn't change while your subscription is active. New prices apply only to new subscriptions.
  • Change plan or payment. Switch plans or update your card on your own, and see the date the change takes effect.
  • Recognised on every device. Your paid access follows you to every device and stays through every app update.
  • Invite a friend. You get 30 extra days once their subscription is paid.

Your account and your data

  • One account on every device. Use web, iPhone and Android with one account, and sign in without a password.
  • Consents in one place. One switch turns AI off. Logging keeps working.
  • Export everything. Download all your data, whatever plan you're on.
  • Delete your account. From the app or the web, with the timelines spelled out.
  • Quiet reminders. Optional, with quiet hours. If you've already logged, they stay silent.
  • Your look. Light or dark theme, and the date and time formats you're used to.
  • Share a dish or your progress. Pictures that show your weight only if you choose to.
  • One-click unsubscribe. Leave marketing emails without touching your subscription.

Help and safety

  • Help by topic. Search Help, browse answers by topic and see service status at the top.
  • A person replies. Email us and a person replies within 24 hours.
  • Suggest a feature. Ask for something new and see what other people have asked for.
  • Report an answer. Flag an AI answer or a recognition result.
  • Support in a hard moment. Help comes first and no prices are shown. We publish the protocol we follow.
  • Status you can see. A public status page. Nothing you typed is lost during an outage.
  • Adults only. Calsa is for people aged 18 and over.
