Choosing a calorie app

Fitia App Alternative: Meal Plans vs a Plain Food Log

The free version logs by text and barcode but caps you at 4 meals a day. Meal plans, photo logging and voice logging need Premium, and 12-month rows cost $53.99 to $59.99 on the US App Store.

Key takeaways

  • The free version tracks 4 meals a day and weight only, while Premium removes both limits.
  • Weekly meal plans, shopping lists, photo logging and voice logging are Premium features.
  • The 3-day trial is on the annual plan only, and the annual price is charged upfront.
  • The US App Store listed 12-month rows from $53.99 to $59.99 against $19.99 for one month.
  • Its calorie target is a range of plus or minus 10%, so 2,000 kcal becomes 1,800 to 2,200 kcal.

Fitia is a meal planner with a calorie counter attached. Its free version logs food by text and barcode but caps you at 4 meals a day. Meal plans, photo logging and voice logging need Premium. I read its Premium page, help pages and four App Store listings. That is enough to see what the free version leaves out and what Premium costs before you go looking for a Fitia app alternative.

What does Fitia do?

It builds a plan and then asks you to log against it. The help center describes meal plans generated from your goals, preferences and diet type, a shopping list made from the plan, and personalized recipes. The calorie and macro log sits beside the plan. Premium also lists an AI coach called Fitia Coach, and the store text adds an intermittent fasting tracker and team challenges with friends.

That’s a different job from a plain food diary. A plan tells you what to eat next, while a diary records what already happened. On a night when you’re too tired to follow the plan, only the diary still works. The Lifesum review covers another app that puts meal plans and scores behind a paid tier.

What is free in Fitia, and what needs Premium?

The free version gives you personalized calorie and macro targets, most of the food database, a barcode scanner and text logging, per the help center. The rest is mostly Premium.

Feature Free version Premium
Calorie and macro targets from your goal Yes Yes
Text logging and barcode scanning Yes Yes
Food database Most of it Full, with restaurant menus
Meals tracked per day 4 Your choice
Photo and voice logging No Yes
Weekly meal plans, shopping list, recipes No Yes
Custom calories and macros No Yes
Intermittent fasting timer No Yes
Progress tracking Weight only Photos, body fat, measurements
Apple Health and Health Connect sync No Yes
Ad-free use No Yes

Its Premium page shows the same comparison with icons instead of words. I read which icons are gray and which yellow from the page code. The page’s “Limited”, “Only 4” and “Only weight” labels agree with the help center.

Test the 4-meal cap first. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks make five meals. The free version stops one short.

The free barcode scanner counts for something. In Lose It vs MyFitnessPal, both apps keep theirs behind Premium.

How much does Fitia Premium cost?

Fitia’s website and help pages show no prices, so the App Store rows are what I could read. Each storefront lists ten purchase rows, and I read them.

Storefront 1 Month 6 Months 12 Months Family, 1 Year
United States $19.99 $35.99 $53.99 to $59.99 $89.99
United Kingdom £8.49 to £10.99 £17.49 and £32.49 £30.99 to £33.99 £49.99
Canada $22.99 $35.99 $59.99 to $69.99 $105.99
Australia $25.99 $53.99 $71.99 to $79.99 $119.99

Rows of the same length carry different prices in every storefront, and the listing doesn’t say why. Do the division on the US rows. Twelve months at $19.99 is 12 × $19.99 = $239.88. The top 12-month row is $59.99, about $5.00 a month, a quarter of the monthly price. Some apps in this niche price by the week instead, which hides the yearly total, and the BitePal app alternative article does that sum.

The billing help has the fine print. A 3-day trial exists on the annual plan only, with a reminder a day before it ends, and you can use it once per account. The annual price is charged upfront for the full year. Only the monthly plan charges monthly. Store purchases are refunded by Apple or Google, and a website purchase within 48 hours of payment.

A referral code gives your friend 10% off the annual plan, and you get a month of Premium when they subscribe. Check that before you pay full price. For the same pricing set against a plain log, see Fitia vs Calsa.

What should you check before leaving Fitia?

I’d start with the calorie bar. Fitia’s help page says your target is a range of plus or minus 10%. A 2,000 kcal target becomes 1,800 to 2,200 kcal, green inside the range and yellow outside it. If that range kept you calm, check whether your next app has one. Calsa shows a single goal.

Next, the database. Fitia says its own nutritionists review every item. If you switch, compare five foods you eat weekly in both apps, gram for gram, and note where they differ. The article on how to choose a calorie counter app has ten checks like this one. Fitia also has a Report Food option, and its help page says reported items are reviewed in under 24 hours.

Then your history. I found no data export on the help pages I read. They describe permanent account deletion and a sync with Apple Health and Health Connect, which can pass data to other apps. To cancel, use Manage Subscription in the app’s account settings for store purchases, or on the web app for a website purchase. A cancelled trial keeps Premium until the trial ends.

On the US listing, the developer declares one type of data under “Data Used to Track You”: identifiers. Apple lists it as unverified.

Is Calsa a Fitia app alternative for a plain food log?

Facts about Fitia come from its website, help center and App Store pages. I read them and walked through no paid screens. Our own app, Calsa, fills the right-hand column, and we have an obvious stake in how it looks.

Fitia Calsa
Weekly meal plan and shopping list Premium None: ideas come from your own diary, and a recipe can fit what is left of your day
Text and barcode logging Included without Premium, with 4 meals a day In every plan, with no meal cap
Photo and voice logging Premium In every plan: speech turns into text, and you confirm the portion in a photo
Calorie target A range of plus or minus 10%, green or yellow One goal, and notes in plain words such as “in range”
Food data Reviewed by Fitia’s nutritionists Each entry shows its source and the math, “per 100 g × grams”; unconfirmed amounts are marked “estimate”
Data export None found Export everything, on any plan
Tracking Declares one data type No ad networks, tracking SDKs or pixels

Where Calsa is weaker: you pay from day one. It has no weekly meal plans, no shopping list, no fasting tracker and no team challenges. It has no manual workout entry or watch app, and its food database is smaller than the biggest apps.

Choose something else if you want the app to plan your week, a fasting timer, team challenges or text and barcode logging at no cost.

Calsa lets you type or say a meal with grams, so one ordinary weekday logged in both apps will show whether you ever opened Fitia’s plan.

Questions and answers

On the US App Store, one month was $19.99 and 12 months ran from $53.99 to $59.99. The UK, Canada and Australia show their own rows. I found no prices on Fitia's own pages, so read the one in your account.

Yes, a 3-day trial, on the annual plan only. You get a reminder one day before it ends, and you can use it once per account. The annual price is charged upfront when the trial ends.

Open the Plan tab, tap your profile picture, then Account and Manage Subscription for store purchases. For a website purchase, use Manage Subscription in the web app. If you cancel a trial, Premium stays until the trial ends.

Put the numbers to work.

The guides show where each number comes from. In Calsa you log a meal by photo, voice or barcode, check the grams, and every calorie shows its source.
