Welmi App Alternative: What to Check
Check three things before you switch: what the paid plan costs over a year, what happens to your diary, and which features you would miss. An item named Weekly at $4.99 would come to $259.48 over 52 weeks.
Key takeaways
- The free plan allows 1 food scan per day, and the store listing says AI analysis results require a subscription.
- The US App Store list showed an item named "Weekly" at $4.99, although the app's own help says it has no weekly plan; billed weekly for 52 weeks that is $259.48, against $59.99 for the highest "Yearly" price.
- Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription, and cancelling does not refund a payment already made.
- Deleting an account removes the diary permanently, and the help center describes no data export.
- A switch changes tools you use daily, such as a fasting timer, meal plans and a medication log, so test the new app for a week first.
The Welmi app alternative question comes down to two exits: what the paid plans cost over a full year, and where your diary goes when you leave. Features come third. I found no data export in its help center, so plan to copy what you need before you delete anything. The US App Store listing has an item named “Weekly” at $4.99, even though Welmi’s help says it has no weekly plan. If that item bills every week, a year of it comes to $259.48.
How much does Welmi cost, and what do you get without paying?
I read Welmi’s help articles and its App Store pages and quote only what they say. The free plan is small. Welmi’s plans article lists it as 1 food scan per day plus basic features. Paid plans add unlimited food logging and AI food recognition by voice, photo and barcode. The store listing is blunter: “AI analysis results require a subscription.”
New users may be offered a free trial, and the same article gives “3 days” as an example, not a fixed length. The trial turns into a paid plan on its own unless you cancel before it ends. On the yearly plan the full year is charged in one payment, and the per-month figure is only for comparison.
The App Store lists several prices under one name and doesn’t say which one you will be offered. Welmi’s help says that when one period has several prices, the cheaper ones are promotional offers Apple shows by region, and every option unlocks the same features. Here is what each listing showed.
| Storefront | “Weekly” | “Monthly” | “Yearly” |
|---|---|---|---|
| US | $4.99 | $11.99 and $14.99 | $23.99 to $59.99 (four prices) |
| UK | £2.19 and £3.49 | £5.99 and £8.99 | £17.99 to £43.99 (six prices) |
Two more purchases are on the US list. Two items named “Premium” cost $44.99 and $79.99, and the listing shows no period for them. The “Welmi AI Bundle” is $24.99, but the help article says it is a one-time purchase that unlocks only Body Scan and AI Health Report. Food scanning and calorie tracking still need a Pro subscription.
The plans article is flat about weekly billing: there is no weekly plan, a per-week figure on the plans screen is the yearly price divided by 52, and you are billed once a year. The store list still has an item named “Weekly”, and nothing on the listing says how it bills. If it renews every week, 52 × $4.99 = $259.48 a year, more than four times the highest “Yearly” price on the same list ($59.99). Read the period on the payment sheet before you confirm, whatever the big number says. Numify’s store shelf has a weekly row too, and the Numify app alternative comparison runs the same 52-week sum.
What should I do before I cancel Welmi?
Cancel the renewal, copy what you need, and only then delete anything. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription. The cancellation article gives the iPhone steps: Settings, your Apple ID name, Subscriptions, Welmi, Cancel Subscription. Cancelling stops future charges and, per the plans article, you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. It doesn’t refund a payment already made.
Deleting your account is a different step and a final one. The deletion article says your profile, goals and food diary are permanently removed and can’t be recovered. It mentions no export. I found none anywhere in the help center, so your history can’t move to another app as a file. Having an export isn’t a guarantee either: the MyFitnessPal alternative article covers one whose export is a paid feature and totals foods by meal.
That changes what is worth saving. Open your saved dishes, because the logging article says Favorites are how you re-add a meal in one tap. Write down your ten most common meals with the grams you actually eat. I’d rather retype ten meals than depend on an old history. With that list you can log a normal week in one sitting, on the first evening, without hunting for old entries one by one.
One more detail. The same article says there is no separate manual entry form. Typed foods go through Search, and you edit weight, calories and macros on the meal card. Fiber, sugar and sodium can’t be edited.
Which Welmi features would I miss, and which would I gain?
It depends on what you open daily. I set facts from Welmi’s own pages next to what Calsa has built today. Calsa’s limits come in the next section, and Welmi vs Calsa goes through a whole day of logging in each app.
| If you use this | Welmi, from its pages | Calsa |
|---|---|---|
| Logging | photo, voice, barcode, search and favorites; no manual entry form | type or say it with grams, photo, barcode, label photo, or type just the calories |
| Fasting | an intermittent fasting tracker | no fasting |
| Meal plans | meal plans and about 5,000 recipes | no weekly meal plans, a recipe for what is left in your day instead |
| AI chat | an assistant with selectable coaches, and a daily message limit that resets after 24 hours | a chat labelled as AI, with no persona and a visible count of messages left |
| Medication | a log of medication doses, reminders and side effects | no medication or dose logging |
| Wearables | reads activity through Apple Health or Health Connect; no direct Garmin, Fitbit or Strava link | the same route, and no direct Garmin or Fitbit link |
| Water | the coach counts plain water only | counts water by the glass, plus the fluid in what you log |
| Billing periods | monthly and yearly in its help; the store list also has items named “Weekly” | monthly or yearly only |
| Data export | none found in the help center | export everything, on any plan |
| Tracking | the listing declares Identifiers under Data Used to Track You | no ad networks, tracking SDKs or pixels |
The tracking row is the developer’s declaration on the listing, and I read no more into it than the words.
If the meal plans are what keeps you here, check that they fit how you eat. A Mediterranean pattern, for one, is tracked mostly as a scorecard of foods rather than a calorie total, which is the point of the Mediterranean diet app piece.
Does Calsa work as a Welmi app alternative?
Calsa is worth a week’s test if the missing export and the unexplained weekly item bother you. For the wider market I counted 15 calorie trackers sold in the US, UK, Canada and Australia. I read their websites, help centers and App Store pages and opened no paid screens. Counts only.
| In the category (of 15 apps, checked 8 Oct 2026) | Calsa | |
|---|---|---|
| Source of each number | 0 of 15 show the database source of every number, while 9 show a check badge or a “checked by nutritionists” claim without it | every number shows its source and database release; an unconfirmed amount is marked “estimate” |
| Breaks | 0 of 15 are confirmed free of streaks; 8 of 15 use streaks or badges | no streaks or badges; a break costs nothing |
| AI chat | 0 of 15 combine a chat without a persona, numbers from a database and memory you can delete fact by fact; all 6 chats in the set use a coach title or a persona | labelled AI with no persona; numbers from the database; memory you can see and delete one fact at a time |
| Price | 0 of 15 show the price before the first question; 7 of 15 use timers, discount wheels or a second offer | price, trial and how to cancel before any question; no timers |
| Calorie floor | 0 of 15 keep a floor that cannot be switched off | a goal below the floor is not saved, and the reason is shown |
| No numbers | 0 of 15 can hide every number | hide calories, nutrients and weight at any time |
| Tracking | 2 of 15 declare no tracking; 13 of 15 declare tracking | no tracking; health data is used only to run the service |
| Crisis help | 0 of 15 publish a crisis protocol | help lines come first; the protocol is published |
| Where Calsa is weaker | no free tier; no manual workout logging; no Apple Watch app or widget; no meal plans, fasting or medication log; a smaller food database | |
| Choose something else if | you want a free tier, a watch app, manual workout logging, a fasting timer, a weekly meal plan or a medication log |
I’d read the last two rows against your own week. A fasting timer or a medication log you use daily is reason enough to stay put. Without that need, what remains is a source behind each number and a break that costs nothing.
Give it a week. The method is the one behind how to choose a calorie counter app. Write down your ten usual meals with grams, log them in both apps and compare the entries line by line. If you have already decided, cancel the renewal now: access runs to the end of the paid period, so the old app stays usable while you test.
Questions and answers
Can I export my Welmi data?
I found no export feature in Welmi's help center. The account deletion article says the diary, goals and profile are permanently removed and mentions no export. Write down the meals you eat most, with grams, before you delete anything.
Does deleting the Welmi app cancel my subscription?
No. Welmi's help says deleting the app does not cancel it. On an iPhone, open Settings, tap your Apple ID name, choose Subscriptions, pick Welmi and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the paid period.
Does Welmi have a free plan?
Yes, a small one. The help center lists 1 food scan per day and basic features. Paid plans add unlimited food logging and AI food recognition, and the store listing says AI analysis results require a subscription.
How much does Welmi cost?
It depends on the plan and the country. The US App Store list showed "Monthly" at $11.99 and $14.99, "Yearly" from $23.99 to $59.99, and an item named "Weekly" at $4.99, although Welmi's help says it has no weekly plan. The UK list showed "Yearly" from £17.99 to £43.99. Check the period on your own payment sheet.
