Choosing a calorie app

Noom vs MyFitnessPal: A Program or a Tracker

One is a paid program with daily lessons, $209 for 12 months. The other is a food diary with a free plan and a $79.99 yearly Premium. The choice comes down to lessons or a plain log.

Key takeaways

  • A 12-month plan of the program costs $209, about $17.42 a month, and its 1-month plan is $70, about four times as much per month.
  • The tracker lists Premium at $79.99 a year or $19.99 a month, and its Free plan costs $0, US prices.
  • The program lists daily lessons, communities and optional 1:1 coaching; the tracker lists a 20.5M+ food database and an AI assistant on iOS.
  • The program says weight-plan charges may be refunded if you ask within 14 days of purchase.
  • Data export is on request within about 30 days at the program, and a Premium feature at the tracker.

Noom vs MyFitnessPal pairs a lesson-based program with a plain tracker. Noom charges $209 for a 12-month plan. It wraps food logging in daily lessons and optional coaching. MyFitnessPal is a food diary with a free plan, and its Premium costs $79.99 a year.

I read both companies’ help pages and App Store listings. Prices are US dollars from those pages, and anything I worked out myself is labeled.

Noom vs MyFitnessPal: what are you actually buying?

Noom’s App Store page leads with AI food logging with 1M+ food items, step tracking, body scans and meal plans. Daily lessons on psychology and habits, communities called Circles and optional 1:1 coaching. MyFitnessPal sells the diary itself. Its listing names a food database of 20.5M+ foods, a meal planner, a community and workout logging, and that’s about it.

What you get Noom MyFitnessPal
Food logging AI food logging, 1M+ food items search of 20.5M+ foods, with barcode scanner, Meal Scan and voice logging in Premium
Daily lessons yes, on psychology and habits not listed on the pages I read
Coaching optional 1:1 coaching Coach, an AI assistant, for Premium on iOS
Meal plans listed among its features Premium+ tier
Community Circles MyFitnessPal community

A separate medical program exists at Noom too, and I left it out. If medication is on your mind, medication is a question for your doctor, and a comparison table can’t answer it. If you are weighing Noom against a points-based program instead, Noom vs Weight Watchers is the better read.

How much does each cost?

How much you pay depends on how long you commit. Noom’s pricing page lists the Noom Weight plan at $70 for 1 month, $159 for 3 months, $179 for 6 months and $209 for 12 months. The page prices every length from 1 to 12 months, for example $129 for 2 months. All of it is before taxes and discounts. A quiz personalizes the plan you are offered, and prices can shift with promotions or signup method.

I divided each total by its months to compare them. That per-month column is my arithmetic, not a Noom figure.

Plan (US, checked 10 Oct 2026) Total Per month
Noom Weight, 1 month $70 $70.00
Noom Weight, 3 months $159 $53.00
Noom Weight, 6 months $179 $29.83
Noom Weight, 12 months $209 $17.42
MyFitnessPal Premium, yearly $79.99 $6.67
MyFitnessPal Premium, monthly $19.99 $19.99
MyFitnessPal Free $0 $0

The one-month plan costs about four times as much per month as the 12-month plan. The $79.99 and $19.99 come from MyFitnessPal’s membership page, where its Premium+ tier with meal plans is $99.99 a year. The US App Store lists purchases named “Noom Program” from $44.99 to $199.99 without a period. Check the screen where you pay. A price table doesn’t show what the program is like to follow, so for that I’d read the Noom reviews piece.

What does the free version include?

Noom’s support page says you can create a free account, or fall back to one when a paid plan ends. Free tools may include select lessons, movement tracking and meal logging, depending on your location and app version. It doesn’t say which logging methods you get. MyFitnessPal’s free plan, per its comparison table, covers food and exercise logging, your own recipes, measurements and linking partner apps. What it leaves out is in is MyFitnessPal free.

Both free plans leave parts out. Before paying for either, log one real day in both and write down what you kept wishing for. Then run the checks from how to choose a calorie counter app on whichever one you’re leaning toward.

What happens when you cancel?

You can cancel Noom in the app, on the web or through the store, and access runs to the end of the billing cycle. Uninstalling the app does not cancel. Noom Weight charges may be refundable if you ask within 14 days of purchase. MyFitnessPal also keeps Premium until the paid period ends and asks you to cancel on the platform where you subscribed.

Your data follows different rules. At Noom you request an export in the app or the web portal, and it typically arrives in a portable format within 30 days. At MyFitnessPal export is a Premium feature and arrives by email. If you plan to leave either one, get your data out before you cancel.

Where does Calsa fit next to these two?

How we compare: 15 calorie trackers sold in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, checked against their websites, help centers and App Store pages, with no paid screen opened. Noom is a program and not part of that set, so the category numbers describe trackers.

In the category (of 15 apps, checked 8 Oct 2026) Calsa
Source of each number 0 of 15 show the database source of every number; 9 show a check badge or a “checked by nutritionists” claim without it every number shows its source and database release; an unconfirmed amount is marked “estimate”
Price 0 of 15 show the price before the first question; 7 of 15 use timers, discount wheels or a second offer price, trial and how to cancel before any question; no timers
No numbers 0 of 15 can hide every number hide calories, nutrients and weight at any time

Where Calsa is weaker. Against Noom it has no daily lessons and no human coach, and against MyFitnessPal a smaller food database. It also has no manual workout logging, Apple Watch app or widget, meal plans or fasting, and every plan is paid after the trial.

Choose something else if you want lessons or a coach, a watch app, or a plan that costs $0.

Calsa is a tracker, so MyFitnessPal is its nearest match. Every number shows its source and grams, you can hide calories, nutrients and weight when the numbers get loud, and the price, trial length and how to cancel come before any question.

If what you miss is daily structure, Noom is the one to try. If you already know what you want to eat and just need somewhere to write it down, start with a tracker. MyFitnessPal Free costs $0, which makes a tracker the lower-risk first month, and Noom’s lessons can come later.

Questions and answers

Is Noom a calorie counter?

Partly. Its App Store page lists AI food logging with 1M+ food items and calorie and macro tracking. It also lists daily lessons, communities and optional 1:1 coaching, so food logging is one part of a larger program.

Does Noom have a free version?

Yes, a limited one. Noom says a free account or the app after a paid plan ends may include select lessons, movement tracking and meal logging, depending on your location and app version.

Can I get a refund from Noom?

Possibly. Noom says Noom Weight charges may be eligible for a refund if you ask within 14 days of purchase. Contact its chat or contact form in that window.

How do I cancel Noom?

Open the app, tap your profile picture, then Settings and Manage Subscription. You can also cancel in the web Subscription Portal or in the App Store or Google Play. Access continues to the end of the billing cycle.

Is MyFitnessPal cheaper than Noom?

Yes. MyFitnessPal Premium at $79.99 a year costs $129.01 less than the 12-month Noom plan at $209, and the MyFitnessPal Free plan costs $0. They sell different things, so compare what you will use.
