Noom Reviews: How the Program Works and What It Costs

Noom sells a subscription program, and the calorie counting is one piece of it. You take a quiz, then get a plan with a daily calorie range, short daily lessons, color-sorted food logging and optional coaching. The US plan table runs from $70 for one month to $209 for twelve. What is Noom?

The core program is Noom Weight, and it’s built around habits. Noom’s own explainer says the quiz takes about 10 minutes and the plan usually runs around 16 weeks. The lessons run around 5 to 15 minutes, draw on cognitive behavioral therapy and begin on day one. Logged foods show up as green, yellow or orange. Green foods fill you up while keeping calories low, and orange foods do the opposite. Noom says no food is off limits.

Weighing in daily is optional. Coaches are there when you ask. The blog says every plan started with an initial 7-day trial, though the plan table mentions none.

The App Store listing adds AI food logging against 1M+ food items, step tracking, body scans, meal plans, communities called Circles and optional 1:1 coaching. It also sells Noom Med, a separate prescription service that offers GLP-1 medication if you’re eligible. Noom is for adults, and the listing carries an 18+ age rating.

There’s a free version too, though a small one. The support page says you can create a free account, and that you land on the free version when a paid subscription ends. How much does Noom cost, in the US and the UK?

On the US price table, one month of Noom Weight costs $70 and twelve months cost $209. Noom’s plan page lists every length from one to twelve months, before tax and discounts. Plans bill automatically and renew unless you cancel, medication isn’t included, and Noom also says prices can vary slightly with promotions or with how you sign up, through the app or the website.

The annual plan is the cheapest per month. The gap is wide: twelve one-month plans would cost $840, about four times the $209 annual plan. The listing’s “Plans start at $17 a month” is that annual price divided by twelve, and its footnote says so. Add-ons such as a meal plan or a Premium coaching tier are billed separately.

UK pricing is murkier. I found no UK price table on Noom’s site. The UK listing shows ten purchases named “Noom Program”, from £40.99 to £189.99. No billing period sits beside any of them, so I can’t say which row is which. The Canadian rows run from $58.99 to $259.99 and the Australian ones from $64.99 to $309.99, in local currency. The US listing’s rows run from $44.99 to $199.99, which doesn’t match the web table. That fits Noom’s note about sign-up method. Read the price on your own checkout screen. What do Noom reviews from users say?

Recent reviews are split, and a quarter of the low ones aren’t about the calorie program at all. I pulled the 500 newest US App Store reviews through Apple’s public RSS feed. They run from 27 February to 7 October. Of those, 233 (47%) gave one or two stars, 74 gave three and 193 (39%) gave four or five. The listing’s long-run average is 4.7 from 873K ratings. A star average and a feed of recent written reviews measure different things, so I’d read the text before trusting either number.

Among the 233 low reviews, 59 mention GLP-1, medication, meds or a prescription. Medication is a separate Noom service with its own shipping and clinicians, so a review about it says little about the calorie program. Another 58 mention a charge, a refund, cancelling, a renewal or billing. Price or cost comes up in 20, support, chat or coaches in 53, and crashes, freezing or bugs in 27.

Of the 193 high reviews, 48 mention logging or calories and 18 mention lessons. These are keyword counts of topics, not a reading of each review’s intent, and a review that mentions a charge isn’t necessarily complaining about it. For the calorie program alone, skip the medication complaints.

How do you cancel Noom, and can you take your data?

You can cancel in three places, and access runs to the end of the billing cycle. The cancel page lists the app (profile picture, Settings, Manage Subscription), the web Subscription Portal (Cancel Subscription) and your app store if you subscribed there. Uninstalling cancels nothing.

For Noom Weight, charges may be eligible for a refund if you contact Noom within 14 days of purchase, through chat or the contact form. Mark the date.

Your data can leave with you. The export page says you can request it in the app or the web portal. It typically arrives in a portable format within 30 days. Deleting an account also completes within 30 days. An active subscription, an open export request or a legal duty to keep records can delay it.

Who should think twice before joining a program like Noom?

Anyone for whom numbers or weigh-ins are already a strain. I’d be blunt with myself about that. Noom invites daily weigh-ins and hands you a daily calorie range. A daily range gives some people a clear target, and a daily weigh-in can wear thin by week four. If counting or weighing has started to feel hard to stop, take that to your doctor first, because a program built on targets will press on it. Noom Med is a prescription service, so whether medication fits you is for a clinician to decide, and the program is for adults only, with an 18+ rating on the listing.
