Numbers and accuracy
Understand where values come from and what to check when they look wrong.
- Where do the calories come from?Calsa calculates food values from the selected database record and the amount you enter. Its sources include USDA FoodData Central, Open Food Facts, CoFID, the Canadian…
- Why is my number different from the package or another app?First compare the same product and amount. Check the brand, country and raw or cooked state, then whether the value is per 100 g, per serving or for your entered amount.…
- How do I report a wrong food?Open the food's source and choose Report this food. Explain what differs: the product matched by barcode, its nutrition values or its portion. If you choose, attach a…
- Can I use kilojoules, ounces or stone?Open You → Units and time to choose kcal or kJ for energy, grams or ounces for food, and kilograms, pounds or stone and pounds for body weight. Defaults follow your…
- Will old entries change if the database is updated? No. A saved entry keeps a snapshot of the food values, source and amount used when you saved it. Updating the shared database does not silently recalculate your past…
- When will I hear back about a food report? The result of a food report is sent by email within 7 days. The reviewer checks the evidence against the label, manufacturer, restaurant publication or source record.…
- How accurate are photo estimates and calorie totals?A photo helps identify foods and estimate their amounts. It cannot reliably show hidden oil, ingredients under sauce or the weight of a deep portion. Calsa does not…
- How do I correct a portion or weigh the whole meal? The draft shows each food's amount and the total. You can scale the whole portion or enter the food's total weight. Calsa divides that amount proportionally across the…
- Should I enter the raw weight or the cooked weight?Match the weight to the entry. If you weighed rice dry, choose a dry-rice entry. If you weighed it after cooking, choose cooked rice and check the preparation method.…
- Does a photo include cooking oil, sauces and hidden ingredients?A photo cannot reliably reveal all oil, sauces or hidden ingredients. Calsa may show a separate oil or dressing estimate or ask what you cooked with. Check that line and…
- My recipe weighs less after cooking. How do I log my portion?Enter the ingredient amounts with their correct raw or cooked states, then enter the whole finished dish's weight. Your portion is calculated as its share of that…
- Does a blank nutrient value mean zero?A blank or “no data” value means the source does not provide that nutrient. It does not mean the food contains zero. Calsa keeps that distinction instead of filling…
- Why do calories not exactly match protein, carbs and fat?Calsa keeps the energy stated by the food source instead of replacing it with a simple calculation from protein, carbohydrate and fat. Labels and databases can use…
- Can I use cups, pieces or millilitres instead of grams?Yes, when the food has a supported measure. Calsa shows what a cup, piece or label serving represents, such as one piece with its gram amount. Check the displayed size…
- Are these total carbs or net carbs, and salt or sodium? You can choose total carbohydrates or carbohydrates without fibre. Defaults follow the label market. Calsa only converts between these definitions when fibre is known…
